Owl Posse shop now open!

Owl Posse has been quietly working away on some exciting things over the past six months and we’re really excited to share it all with you.

It is our pleasure to announce the Owl Posse shop is now officially open! The store features a selection of contemporary jewellery pieces, made with the futuristic wonders of 3D printing and lasercutting.

The pieces are custom made upon order, no mass production generic stuff here at all!

We hope you love our pieces as much as as we had fun designing them. Here is a peek of some of our favourites now available:

The 'Oh My Gear' ring

The 'Rocky Scape' ring

Head down, prototyping up

Edging ever so close to completing a bunch of pieces! Here’s a sneak peek of what I’ve been working on…

Some leather insets for a mystery item

The Once Upon a Cloud ring, redesigned in stainless steel

Viral Gear Ring!

Just this week I shared one of my jewellery designs on the Shapeways forum as I was pretty excited to arrive at the final design, ready for sale among my other items still in the works. I didn’t expect Shapeways to put the pictures on their Tumblr account though. I was so pleased that they wanted to share it and I also didn’t expect so many reblogs!

I want to release this ring and others soon, but aren’t quite ready yet. If you’d like to know when one of them can be yours, please subscribe to the Owl Posse mailing list and you’ll be one of the first to know when it goes on sale. The mailing list is not a frequent bombing of emails, and I take your privacy seriously. So what are you waiting for? :)

Thanks for the support and encouragement, it’s great to know others share my enthusiasm in fun jewellery!

Arduino: The Documentary

Poster Arduino The Documentary

A friend linked me to this cool documentary (thanks Yong!!) which is worth a watch if you have a thing for open source hardware. I particularly liked the part with one of MakerBot‘s inventors, Zach Hoeken Smith. He admitted he knew nothing about electronics so they used several Arduino’s to create what is known as one of the most popular home 3D printers currently available, the Thing-O-Matic. It’s made me want to crack out my Arduino and complete at least one project on it by the end of the year (I’m sure you SYN Shop guys will push me to do this now I’ve said it!)

You can download or watch the documentary online by visiting the Arduino: The Documentary website.

prototyping just got less 'prototypey'

Yes, I just made that word up. But I’m pretty excited. The awesome 3d printing dudes at Shapeways announced a couple of weeks ago that they’re now able to offer a more polished version of their nylon plastic material. Previously your model could sometimes arrive looking a little rough on the surface. When printing something as small as jewelery, this could really impact on the finished product’s quality and feel. With their post production polishing and smoothing service, the final result has been likened to injection molded plastic! I can see this material being a lot more useful (and pretty!) to me now.
